Intro to marker word
A marker word is a secondary reinforcer and is used to signal to your dog that they have done the right thing and that a reward (primary reinforcer) is on the way.
You’ll know that your dog understands your marker word when you say it while they’re distracted and they quickly whip around in anticipation of the reward!

Lead on / Lead off
If your walk begins with the crazies as your dog sees the lead come out and anticipates it being clipped on that energy is how your walk will continue!
Calmness to the lead going on, means calmness going out into the walk.
The same applies with the lead coming off. If the unclipping of the lead cues your dog to zoom off excitedly there’s no control or managing their arousal levels.
